Union learning project a new and exciting development introduced nationally over the last year, working in partnership with our management. The union is at the heart of the project and hopes to deliver lifelong learning to our workforce and their families.

We need in the fire service to promote relevant and stimulating learning, enabling individuals to enhance their skills and lives. Working with our partners Union learning reps are helping to establish a learning culture at work providing advice support and encouragement that is trusted and opening up opportunities to all.

We have made a start in the East Midlands by putting in place an infrastructure in each Brigade. We now have 19 trained reps from our 5 Brigades with other courses to follow. Union learning reps are trained to support the learning of the entire workforce in the workplace, their key roles and common tasks are promoting the value of learning, offering learning information, providing front-line advice and guidance and negotiating learning with our employers.
